Birch Hills Academy, both the elementary and middle school buildings, are nestled on 4.5 acres of beautiful land surrounded by pristine forest so children are exposed to nature and the great outdoors everyday. The outside environment boasts a classroom size sand box, a hill for winter sledding, field, separate play space for younger students and a wooded area. Much of the natural ecological habitat has been preserved, and along with additional plantings utilizing native Nova Scotia plants, provides learning opportunities about life cycles, observation, plants, insects and small creatures.

Fresh air, natural beauty, music and movement are part of Birch Hills Academy's rich curriculum where we weave our proximity to a natural environment and nature into students' daily studies. Our Music, Art and Dance/Movement programs open up pathways to effective learning too when students are given opportunities to explore and develop curiosity and confidence.
